Seeing Eye to Eye
I haven’t seen my hummingbird friends as much lately. There food is abundant in nature how, and so the feeders are not utilized nearly as much. I continue to change the food every few days to keep it fresh. Yesterday I filled a feeder, and then stood by the door looking out at the garden area. Suddenly the older male hummingbird flew onto the patio. He hovered at a distance, facing directly toward me, then moved closer, within a couple feet.
He looked me directly in the eyes, offering me reassurance. “You may not see us, but we are here”. We must focus on our daily tasks, replenishing ourselves.
Yes it is true, we overwhelm ourselves in the moment, captivating our attention with the day to day activities, and tuning out the “all that is”. Isn’t that a part of living life to its fullest? If we are lucky, or smart, we will allow in reminders of the greater picture.
He hovered for the longest time, maintaining our eye to eye contact. Then he left, without even approaching the feeders this time. This was purely a social visit, and a welcomed one at that.
