Walking with Wings

The Hummingbird holds a special place in our shamanic world, serving as a link between the physical worldly plane and the higher spiritual plane.

Greatness is not based upon our size, but on our presence. Be here, in the moment, and experience the lightness of being as you walk with wings.

Return of the Blessed Spirits: They’re back

I know, it isn’t even February, but my encounters began last year in mid February.  I walk with a watchful eye.  We have had some very nice days, clear and sunny, but still on the cold side.  The bridge between winter and spring has been compromised, and we feel it in the air.

“They’re back”, I stated to a friend I encountered on the walkway.  “I’m ready for spring”, she replies, stating she had noticed the early arrival of the robins.

My first encounter of this year took place yesterday, but obligations prohibited my posting until today.  “They’re back”.

My heart leapt when I saw that familiar little form perched on the tree where we had so often met.  The initial contact was guarded and brief.  The point was made, and my next post will include a reminder of the laws of life, in the eyes of a hummingbird.

My childhood eyes of wonder took the upper hand today as I approached the familiar row of trees.   It is funny that these trees grow on a hillside, and so the top of the tree stands a mere 10 feet above and to the side of the upper pathway.  The hummingbird has chosen this perch for reasons I can only speculate.  Despite his presence he is never seen, the world moves by too quickly to notice.

“They’re back”, and I approach with camera in hand, watching for other walkers in order to keep his hiding place in the open intact.   Yesterday I found the batteries failing me, and no photos were obtained.  Today, with a fresh set of batteries in the camera, I find I am able to snap a few pictures, and my friend stays surprisingly in place.  Four photos later and my batteries again fail.  Perhaps it is time for the hummingbird shaman to add a new 10 megapixel camera to her amazon wishlish!!

Welcome back, little ones.  Today I used my walking time to return a series of phone calls, and as I walked up the hill I saw this little one’s neighbor on a lower level tree.  My friend, also very clairvoyantly attuned, was sharing a story that created hardship in her world.  I told her, “Are you ready for a healing?  The hummingbird healing is on its way”.   I felt the wave of energy, and the gust would have felt icy had it been in carried in the wind.  This was warming and welcome.   “I feel it, I felt it immediately in my back”, was the response from my friend.

Why are these encounters so warming and fulfilling?  Do they serve a purpose?  Is there a reason we are drawn in to the stories, captivated by a glimpse at a spiritual presence?  These questions are the foundation of this blog, and as we begin year two of HummingbirdShaman.com we will continue to explore the world know, yet seek to find.

Worry Not – It does you no Honor

January lingers, caught within the accordion effect of days that pass too quickly and a month that goes on forever.  We do, however, have a few days with sunshine, a blessed and welcome event.

After a long workday, beginning with an abruptly gentle awakening at 4am, I finally decided that a trip to the off leash park would be a great release for both dogs and owner.  Collars on, and we are out the door.

The lab did her usual round about the car, and settled into the back seat.  My older dog was a little more problematic, opting to complete some tasks before even thinking about the car.  I stood patiently, looking around in a wide-eye sweep of my surroundings.

A familiar sound entered my consciousness, and I quickly looked around to find its source.  There she was, my tiny hummingbird friend, two feet above me in the small cherry tree.  “Hello, good to see you”, I spoke out loud.  She returned my greeting by fluttering and landing several times, moving to a branch a little bit closer.  I took a minute to still myself, but as I unwound my cluttered mind I watched as my hummingbird friend emanated her joy and appreciation of life.

“Alright, I will listen, and receive”, I replied.  I felt a warm wave of energy embrace me, much like being in a wind tunnel of appreciation and light.

“You worry too much”, she told me.  Yes, I know that sometimes I wander into the future, creating quite a stir.  “Worry creates the future in a way that does not honor you, and never tells the truth”.  The simplicity of the message brought clarity to my vision and knowing.

As I walked through the park, watching the dogs in their outdoor adventure, not a worry came into my mind.  I was there for the moment, and found it a wonderful place to be.

Wings of Thunder

Winter remains, but the weather has changed.  The solstice has passed, and we are now on the upswing again. There is a hint of spring, perhaps not in the environment, but it lives within my heart.

I noticed something yesterday.  One of the older hummingbirds that I thought had left for the winter has returned.  His head is crested with the most amazing rich red color that only shows when he is facing you.

This morning, I finished the Mayan Daily Insight posting before even the dogs finished their slumber.  I finally shifted into the living area, lighting a fire in the wood stove and sending the dogs outside.  When they informed me that it was time to come back inside I instead stepped outside to grab a little more dry firewood and take advantage of the open door.

Suddenly a sound that I could only equate to thunder filled my ears.  I could not see where it came from, but I knew its source.  This older hummingbird had buzzed me, and quickly disappeared.  I grabbed my camera, but he’s fast, darting away with any movement.  Having just returned to the feeders he’s playing the game well, and acts as though he is intruding on someone’s territory.

The hummingbirds that I wrote about last spring have yet to return to the park, or at least are not allowing their presence to be seen.  Patience wears thin, and my human willfulness and perceived control over my environment speak loudly within my life.  Aren’t we so powerful, with our artificial lighting and heated interiors.

What could we be missing, in our attempt to override our natural cycles?  We live so detached from nature.  What could we be missing?  Wings of thunder roar within my ears, snapping me out of my duty-filled trance.  I find myself awakened to the moment.
