This particular Sunday morning was off to an early start. Dogs were ready for the day much more readily than I was, and the friend I am visiting could be heard in the next room. I decided to start the day right, and so I was up and about, letting the dogs back inside as soon as I heard the barking.
I knew I had to start work early, so first things first, the computer is on. After a long drive yesterday and a long evening filled with cribbage games and sneaking down the street at midnight to leave a “thank you” banner in the cafe window for its last day, I had not written or posted this mornings Mayan Daily Insights. Still haven’t posted it for that matter, no, I decided this story took precedence.
So the computer finally is up and running, and I open the browser to log in to the Mayan Daily Insights blog. The site was down. This site was down, too. Okay, starting the day with a problem. My hosting company had to reboot, and while the time down was small over a lifetime, it was still at least 15 minutes of down time for my sites.
The server came back up while I was chatting with the host, but my mental “server” didn’t reboot. I sat there, still a little sleepy, logging into a couple site simultaneously. The online conversation with my host still played in my head, and it was not pleasant, but I continued anyway.
Suddenly I became aware of a strange sound. It was like a big wasp. I looked around, and noticed movement just outside the window. A hummingbird was there, looking in the window at me, letting his presence be known. Once spotted he turned and flew around the house, I’m assuming to complete his own mission for morning nectar.
“The hummingbird was just here at the back window”, I told my friend. I knew that there had to be a message contained in that non-nectar hummingbird stop. As I rounded the corner I said, “I’ve just been told off by a one-ounce bird”.
I could hear the message loud and clear by this time. “How much do you think we can fit in such a little body”, he said. “There is not the time, or energy, to hold on to such consuming thoughts”. He was right, and by this time my awareness had shifted to a much lighter space.
And so, I confess – I was put in my place by a one-ounce bird, and I’m darn proud of it.

[...] Today I am going to parallel another website, and invite you to read the latest story at the Hummingbird Shaman website. This site is very much the Mayan Daily Insights in the sense that it reflects on our [...]
Rather interesting. Has few times re-read for this purpose to remember. Thanks for interesting article. Waiting for trackback
I love hummingbirds ..love your story. I’ve been wondering what symbolism hummingbirds represent cause for a month every where I turned God had a hummingbird in my face. Now I understand they mean love peace joy and endless energy, but your right there’s no time to hold on to consuming thoughts especially if they r negative.
Thanks Connie, I’m glad you enjoyed the article. I am visited by hummingbirds often, and they tend to show up during healing sessions I offer when the energy must be shifted from the story to consciousness-seeing the story. They often speak (energetically) of the beauty of our lives, and yes they do not tolerate our heaviness.
For you I see that the appearances of the hummingbirds was intended for you to bring that same joyful loving beautiful reflection that is “you” into a more recognizable place for you. In other words, seeing yourself clearly, and appreciating your own beauty. Nice message!!
Thanks for sharing!
