Life is always busy, and in my life I’ve been just as busy, if not more. Yet today I managed to find seedlings for my garden, and I was determined to get them planted on this day. The weather is finally warming, and growth should be quick.
I noticed others in the area joined in, trimming their gardens, creating a lot of noise. I am used to it, and understand where it comes from, but the wildlife never do appreciate our overbearing human ways.
Then it happened. As I emerged from my house, ending a cool-down break, I saw a garter snake slithering across the patio into the greens. Wonderful! On a shamanic level I do not often welcome such a sign, with the snake so closely tied to control and oppressive power, but in this case it was the sign of life within my garden. I let my garden friend be, and went on my way.
The symbolic meaning of snakes, like every thing else, must be taken in context. We cannot see the appearance and judge it to mean some generic meaning. In this instance the snake was there to signify that my garden was a healthy place for nature to reside. There are tall growths, and trimmed areas. There is no pesticide trap to undermind the health and well being of those who share this space.
As I type this one of the hummingbirds comes into view, sharing this sentiment of harmonic living in every aspect of life.
