I recognized the thought pattern right away when this person talked to me of how tired they felt, even phrasing their statement in the strongly self-defeating statement, “I think life is working against me”. How easy is it to stand in this seemingly hopeless space, wanting things to get better, waiting for things to change.
Tomorrow comes and goes, and its so much the same. Some event may come along that lifts you from your daily haze, and you think “now things are much better, my life has changed”. When you wake up the next day what happens in that day? Do you somehow revert back into that old way of thinking?
“Things have to change” we say, yet do we take that thought into action? Yes, there are some parts of our everyday living that we will continue to do like we did them before, but for us to say, “things have to change” we have to have take action. This action could be a physical shift, or it could be mental or emotional.
Hummingbirds do not live in a world where they wait for “things to change”, they cannot. A hummingbird must eat every 15 minutes to have the food energy to sustain. They know what they need to survive, and they take action. We can do the same, taking action by shifting our thoughts. Many times we fail because we try to be something we are not, we try to become a different person. Does the hummingbird abandon their eggs for their own fulfillment? No. Do they throw away their own safety to achieve their goals? No. Do they walk like a penguin, or swim like a fish in order to have what they need for their well-being?
We must move forward and take action, we cannot just wait for the world to change around us. Do so like the hummingbird, honoring who you are, taking care of your own world, and choosing only those actions that support and nourish you.
