Today was supposed to be a “day off” but I had to ask the question, “a day off from what?” I’ve been working very long hours, diligent in my efforts, looking forward to enough return to make it worth the efforts. We are not always rewarded for our hard work, and the measure of value is often twisted in this world of games and immediate pleasures.
I couldn’t help myself, as the sun rose I did as well. By the time I finished it was a 10 hour day, but I loved every minute of it. Time for a walk along the creek, with opportunity for the dog to submerge in the coolness of the creak on a hot summer day.
How often are we so lost in our thoughts that we do not see the world around us? Today I was fortunate enough, or wise enough, or just having enough fun that I did not get lost in the stories. As we walked our walk I admired so much of the simple trail, seeing sweetpea’s in bloom amongst the many other wonders. As I looked up I saw something I rarely see. Today was the day of the eagle.
There was no way to mistake the coloring, nor the wingspan of this regal bird. The eagle has been honored in so many cultures. There is strength, determination.
Today is not the day of the eagle, not in the Mayan calendar- that day comes around every 20 days. Nonetheless it is a welcome sight, and as I saw this noble creature, the eagle above me, I felt a sense of my own value.
