I treasure the times I am here in my home, or walking the trail and hearing the distinctive chatter of a hummingbird along the way. This season I have seen new comers, and welcome them with open arms, or in their case, open wings.
One of the sweetest addition is the sweetest hummingbird, shy and eclectic. What do I mean by eclectic? He is “all over the place”, with erratic flight patterns. He must check out everything, and moves like a pinball machine, bouncing back and forth in a pattern that makes no sense, or does it?
This young male brings new life to this territory. He is chased, very often, by the older alpha male. They fight constantly over the females in the area. I’ve noted that one must be female, plump and ready to lay eggs. I’ve not seen a nest but honor their sense of privacy.
My eclectic hummingbird friend – he makes me laugh, and I look forward to the day he moves from caution with my presence to calm acceptance, as has been the case in the past with other young hummingbirds in the area.
What message could be found in this story? What intuitive meaning could be derived? Simple enough it is to dance to your own beat, be the best “you” possible, and if your dance is erratic and eclectic then so be it – you will be noticed, and even if you don’t see it you will be loved.
