Rising Moon, Rising Sun

Another journey to the high desert, with the transition from city to mountain pass and on to the winding back roads to my destination, all occurring after sunset. More wildlife was seen than cars for a change, and a welcomed change it is. I carefully navigate as mice are seen dashing one way then the other, unsure which direction to take but finding their escape route soon enough to avoid the oncoming vehicle. A few other four-legged appeared briefly before they leapt into the darkness. Soon enough I reached my destination. The darkness was thicker than what I am used to in my city-surroundings, but it was welcoming nonetheless.

Rising Moon

As the night progresses I am greeted by the full moon as it rises, and its depth and texture can be seen and felt as if it were within my reach. I close my eyes and continue my own journey into the night.

The theme of rising continues in the early morning as I am greeted by the inner circle, with claws tapping as they approach. It is time for my own rising, and I look out the window to see if the nearby vultures are observing their wing-warming ritual on the nearby fence posts. For my early-morning writing I choose a sunny spot where the inner circle can join me. Paws touch, eyes close, and the rhythmic rising of a ribcage falls back almost like a sleepy-sigh of relaxation.

We all have our rituals, the way we bring new beginnings into our world. Over these past 12 hours I have focused on this recurring theme, the one of rising. I’ve been awaiting this particular day from a perspective that is different than the many other days that surround it, treating the day with a consciousness that gives it almost a sense of reverence. I ask myself, “Why not treat every day with such strong reverence?”

Greet the Morning Like The Rising Sun

This is a strong motto to follow, though one we will not adhere to every single day. But this is not a shortcoming, instead it is clearly a gift of opportunity to choose an inner landscape that will fit so nicely with its surroundings. I begin this day with this simple post as I sit in the early morning sunlight, and practice my own “warming of my wings”. Rising moon, rising sun. Both offer a clear roadmap in the design of universe that surrounds us.
