Yesterday was the Emerald Spiral Expo, and I spent the day giving reading sessions from the “hummingbird perspective”, looking at the passion that individuals often feel but don’t always express in their day-to-day lives. I see the change in the look on their face, going from reserved and guarded to relaxed and attentive. Most of us are not used to having someone they don’t even know look them in their eyes and talk about the passion in their soul in a way that is compassionate and encouraging.
Theme of the Day: When We Hover
Usually by mid-day at these events I notice a theme. This time the theme centered around our ability to change our “energy speed”. Some people are solid, more grounded, and prefer to spend there time in that calmer vibration. Others live in a faster-paced world, jumping from one thing to the next, multi-tasking, moving about mentally or physically like the hummingbird darting from one flower to the next.
Being Like The Hummingbird Spirit
I found myself talking about being one of those hummingbirds with one of the other vendors at the Emerald Spiral, listening to her talk about her own hummingbird encounters. She seemed to enjoy our conversation, and offered to give me a try of one of her wonderful essential oil blends. I thanked her, but shared that I typically refrain from using energy-changing oils during events. “I stay focused so my people can find me”, and with that the realization came to me of the magnetic quality we possess when we hover.
The Charm of Hummingbirds
Let’s face it, the hummingbird is amazing and delightful to watch no matter how we see them. There speed is impressive, as is their agility and grace. The familiar buzzing sound of those hummingbird wings rapidly moving awakens us, and we turn with excitement to find them nearby, but what captures our attention more than anything else when we see a hummingbird?
When a Hummingbird Hovers
The evening before my event I spent a moment on my patio watering a few potted plants. As I finished I heard that sound, the movement of wings so close by. I looked up to find one of my familiar hummingbirds, the alpha male, hovering only inches away from my face. It was clear that I was his interest, and now this tiny hummingbird was mine. It’s amazing how this face-to-face encounter captivates our attention and our heart as a hummingbird hovers before us.
When We Hover
As I finished my brief chat with the other vendor I returned to my booth and reflected in that moment before my next client appeared. I realized something of value both to me as well as so many who so naturally move about like the hummingbird, darting from one place to another so quickly.
It does us good to practice the other other side, embracing our ability to hover. Hummingbird encounters give us a mega-dose of the power of the hover, they show us in action, and mirror back to us the magnetic power in that moment.
We don’t typically turn our attention to “intentional hovering”, but by putting it into words it’s easier to see that it’s yet another of the powers we possess, and it’s something we can practice and develop in our own lives. Life has so much more depth when we hover, and the moment we spend as we “hover” can just as fulfilling and rich as the nectar of the flower.
