As a strongly gifted intuitive person, practiced in seeing the subtle nature of life, it’s easy for me to step back from the picture and let the connectivity of thoughts and events take place. I’ve seen this in sessions, with symbols and signs appearing between scheduling and the actual session, with strong, powerful examples appearing that help explain and support the shift that my client seeks. I see it in my writing as well, with one simple observation tying somehow to another in a way that soon inspires a message. In a sense the moments of my day and early morning insights are my spring. Consciousness will always give us a way of preparing for anything the future holds, whether it is a hummingbird moment, the sessions with my clients for realization and release, or whatever else the day may hold.

Preparing for Anything

Already I see the trend toward buying new hummingbird feeders, and I’ll admit that I’ve even been caught in that stream of thought. I love the fact that the bird shop is only a few doors down from Trader Joe’s, assuring that everyone in my circle gets good food. But it is still winter, and though the hummingbirds stay in my area year round in many places the hummingbirds are yet to return. Why such a strong desire now?

In nature there are few things that are not preceded in some way by some unseen activity. A flowering bulb begins in the earlier fall by setting roots so that in the springtime growth can come quickly and secure. What more could we ask for ourselves than to have support when we are ready for a change?

Hummingbirds and Spring

Our anticipation is a gift, one we exercise in one instance but somehow forget when it comes down to something for ourselves. How often do we prepare for the little things in life: happiness, a well-deserved rest, a visit with a dear friend. Looking back we can see the outcome of our investment, find those happy memories. Where else in our live can we turn this same ability to help feed the fire of success?

Spring is just around the corner, and even though it may be months away the time will pass quickly. How prepared are we for our next step, our desired changes, and the future of our world?

Setting the tone of support

I know its a very simplistic way of giving, but every time I replenish those hummingbird feeders I am practicing my abilities to anticipate need and respond. What cannot be measured is how much this “wave of thought” influences the bigger world, the network of events and the consciousness that surrounds us? We’ve seen how the power of prayer works, and may speak of it but how much do we believe in our power to influence?

Spring Is Here Ready or Not

The ground may still be frozen and the flowers yet to break ground, but in a sense spring is already here. We choose how to apply our energy, time, and resources. Ask those who have lived in the spirit of success and they will agree that there are many other unseen resources that lead to success. In times of economic breakdown we can see it as a dying away, or we can see it as an opportunity to break new ground and build something new. During lulls like the winter we have the opportunity to turn inward, intuitively or insightfully, to plan, design, and review. Spring is here, ready or not, in nature and in business. Now is the time to invest our energies into a strong root, a solid foundation, so that we are ready for the next step, the leap we long for in our lives.

When we ask for something to come into our lives, how do we go about asking for it? How much control do we have in the outcome? How much influence can be have outside our own “space”? Calling all hummingbirds, is it possible to invoke or invite the energy of the hummingbird into our lives, or anything else?

Can We Invoke Hummingbirds?

Is it possible to invoke hummingbirds into our lives? What does it mean to “invoke”? The word invoke has been used in many ways, with the original meaning in both Latin and French meaning “to call”. From an energy-awareness level I see that to approach a desired outcome by “invoking” carries more weight in the desire or plea. There is a vested interest when we invoke. There is also greater involvement by the will. To invoke is also a more conscious act, very yang in its approach.

What about invite? To invite is often more “polite” in its nature. Seen intuitively it appears to be more of an opening of the door than the more direct statement made when we invoke. To invite has the air of the yin energy, more of the heart-felt feeling than the conscious asking.

Is one better than the other? There is no clear cut answer. Here we delve into mathematics, the weighing and measuring of our desires, perceptions and our own value. We must also bring into consideration our free-will, and ask the question: when we invoke is the freewill of another still respected? When we ask does it come from a place of love already overflowing, or from an empty space?

Calling All Hummingbirds

We can always ask. The dividing line doesn’t really exist, and no matter which way we look at it we will always find a mix that crosses our openness for the “greater good” with our ability to ask for something clearly and well-defined. Sometimes we need to defer the outcome of our prayers to a sign that comes suddenly and unexpected just so we don’t block the experience with our all-so-powerful mental self.

What is a prayer? It is a formula and space that we create, with the element of time twisted in so that what we ask for has a chance to occur. Does the answer to our prayer come from within, or from some cosmic force? Perhaps we must settle for the answer: both. Let us pray.

Hummingbird Prayer for 2012

May it be with the blessings of Great Spirit that as we are given as many opportunities as there are breaths.
May we recognize and realize what animates us, and allow that part of us to lead our every step along the way.
May we invest our best in everything we do, freely , in a way that is self-replenishing.
May the outcome of our investment echo back to us in a way that inspires and delights.

Please share your comments and questions. God Bless, and have a wonderful transition into 2012.

There are signs everywhere, or so they say. Signs as bold as a billboard, and signs as subtle as a hummingbird. It’s funny the way life works and how powerful our insights can be when we step out of the obvious “signs” that we’ve come to expect as “real life”. A whole new world and whole new perspective open up as we open our heart to subtle connections between the physical world and the spirit realm that animates us. Connects that seemed lost can be renewed, and support can be found even when we feel alone.

Lis’ Hummingbird Story

My brother passed away summer 2010- he was the “Vice-President” of the “Hummingbird” dorms at school. Since his passing I had a very unique experience happen- a baby hummingbird was outside my classroom door crying for his mom. I looked around and there was no nest to be found…the custodian mentioned that he had already taken it across the street, but it somehow ended up back on our campus! It wasn’t hurt, it was just hungry and lonely. I took the risk of taking it home and nursed it for a week. I mixed sugar and water and even tried feeding it bugs! At this point- my goal was just to help it survive and the thought of a connection with my brother didn’t cross my mind. My father came home to visit for a week for his birthday and he helped me nurse it as well. After a few days we figured it was time to let it go because it was already trying to fly in the butterfly house. We tried to release it, but it came back to the butterfly house so we figured we would give it another night. The next day, we slowly tried to coax it out and also introduced it to the feeder so that it would know how to feed from it and where to find it. We were happy to see it fly away, but it didn’t go very far. It stayed perched on the tree right next to my back patio. For weeks I witnessed it feed and woke up to it chirping on that same tree! It was such a beautiful experience! Months went by, and more hummingbirds came by and joined it. I was able to take great pictures of all of this! It wasn’t until someone mentioned a spiritual connection to my brother that I actually gave it a thought…I realized that it was his way of letting us know that everything was Ok. Since then, I have seen a couple hummingbirds flying nearby when I am feeling sad. Most recently, during Thanksgiving, I spent all night crying and when I woke up and went out to the patio- I saw a hummingbird feeding! It had been at least a couple months since we had any hummingbirds around! I’m not sure if my story means anything to anyone else, but I just figured I would share.

Sharing Our Stories

Oftentimes we keep the more subtle experiences in our lives to ourselves. We train ourselves to do this, having our childhood observations and stories dismissed by the adults around us in their attempts to direct our attention to “more important things”. But those insights that come to us on these more inward levels, isn’t that what feeds us in a way that thought and logic can’t even fathom?

I learned many years ago that, at least in terms of our soul-energetics and subtle abilities, the most powerful influence we have is sharing. When we share our experience we give others the opportunity to acknowledge their own experiences, and put into words something that may have been only a feeling.

Thank you Lis for sharing your story, and God bless. Perhaps this young hummingbird came into your life for such a long time period to give you opportunity to share and care. Thank you for giving us a reminder to step outside our closed doors and reach out so we don’t forget how precious our time shared can be. While the loss of your brother in your life runs deep so does the love that still lives within your heart. He is very fortunate to have you within his circle, even beyond the days he walked beside you.

God bless.

Life takes us in so many questionable directions. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to expect, how things could ever fit together. As I look around me I see a team dissolving before my eyes, and feel the sense of uncertainty both in myself and in others. What comes next is yet to be seen.

As I drove home in the twilight of the day I came upon the most amazing sight. The winter-bare trees lining the boulevard were full of crows, hundreds of them. One patch of leaf-covered ground was encrusted with dozens of crows. They teetered comically on the small branches of a hedge, and as I look ed up I saw probably hundreds more in the taller trees ahead. I had not seen trees so engulfed with flying creatures since I saw hundreds of fruit bats hanging from a huge tree in Australia.

Lessons from the Crows

The crows dove and swayed in a meandering way, each with their own direction and purpose, a ballet of dark feathers. I knew their network was strong, their alliance unbeatable, and their presence more than commanding. One crossed low and close to my windshield as if attempting to get my attention. No worries, I fully embraced the experience.

Earlier in the day I felt heartsick for the connectivity of the hundreds, sometimes over a thousand of entrepreneurs gathering at the week-long forum that I have come to know as “home”, but this time I could not attend. I turned to my computer and tuned in to the live streaming video to capture a few moments of that sense of cooperation and alliance. Funny how life works, we go about our business and forget sometimes the connectivity and flow that brings us together, whether by design or seemingly by chance. Here I had two very very different examples of organization that told a very similar story.

Soon enough the light changed, and attention returned to traffic. My thoughts couldn’t help but remain with the crows though, and as I headed up the hill I realized that no matter how much there appears to be chaos there is purpose and direction. The seemingly idle twists and turns were all quite intentional. My thoughts soon turned to “I can do that” as I made my way toward my destination.

Seeing In A Whole New Light

My eyes were now open, in a whole new way. On my remaining drive I glimpsed toward the great mountain, with its cloud cover at its peak but a crystal clear view of the snow below. I turned toward a golden-rosy twilight sky and the calm waters below. It’s all good, I thought, it all fits together. What a great gift to me, both the sights and the insights. It will all work out, even if the pattern itself doesn’t yet seem to fit together. If the crows can do it, so can I. Suddenly I realized that I could once again Walk With WIngs.

To find such amazing ability and power within a tiny body: we say this not just about the hummingbird but also make similar statements when we see children exhibit amazing talents and wisdom. What do both possess that we admire so much? Could it be the ability to hold so much presence and express the brilliance that can only come from the soul?

The following was discovered in a book published in 1897.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird: Trochttus colubris

“When the late tulips and narcissi are blooming in the garden, and you hear a tense humming near them, varied by an occasional squeak, you know, without looking, that the Hummingbirds have come. All through late May they dart here and there, now among the flowers, and then disappearing high up in the trees, searching for both honey and aphides with their proboscis-like tongues, while their movements exceed in dash and rapidity even the Swallows and Swifts. They seem merely to will to be in a certain spot, and they are there without effort. The adult birds seldom perch, but, drawing up their tiny claws, pause in front of the chosen flower, apparently motionless. But the hum of the wings tells the secret of the poise.”

Hummingbird – Half Bird, Half Gem

When the mild gold stars flower out,
As the summer gloaming goes,
A dim shape quivers about
Some sweet rich heart of a rose.

Then you, by thoughts of it stirred,
Still dreamily question them: “Is it a gem, half bird,
Or is it a bird, half gem ?”
— Edgar Fawcett.

Dreams of Hummingbirds, what do they mean? In our dream state we can bring in experiences and perceptions that defy and twist our day-to-day beliefs and experiences. Those dreams about hummingbirds can linger in our thoughts, captivating our attention while at the same time giving us a chance to unravel a mystery we scarcely knew existed.

Ami’s Story of Hummingbird Dreams

“Greetings and blessings, I have always felt an affinity for hummingbirds and have had visits from them many times throughout my life. For the first time I was visited in a dream by a group of humming birds that were above my head and poking almost seemed like they were furiously drilling into my skull. One of the hummingbirds beak had broken off and i tried to fix it , attempting to put it back on. I cant remember if i succeeded. I would love some insight into this dream as i cant get it out of my head. Can you help?”

Signs and Symbols in Dreams

Hi Amy! I remember a dream I had a few years back, I was lying on the grass in my garden looking up at the wonderful columbine flowers, and not just one but two hummingbirds appeared to feed. My sense of wonder was just as strong in my dream as it is in my waking hours. Since then, over the next few years, I’ve worked that part of the garden, cultivating more and more columbine into the area.

Whether related or not my hummingbird population has grown, and the circle of encounters has expanded over a mile away from my home and the feeders. My role, self appointed, is guardian and provider, quietly in the background.

What do the hummingbirds bring? A chance to return home again, not in the sense of my house but home in the sense of my soul and conscious awareness. Dreaming of hummingbirds can we a welcoming way to introduce our soul-self into our day-to-day consciousness.

Knock Knock, Who’s There?

Dreams can be like riddles, and don’t we love our mysteries!

You, as a soul-presence, show me the times when you allow yourself to release your attention from the “world ways” and let yourself be in the open but fragile space where your awareness blossoms. Perhaps the hummingbirds tapping on your head were saying just that, “we see you in there”, as though you were the blossom they seek. That’s 100% a compliment!

I state all of this in a playful way, even tossing in a “knock, knock, who’s there”. I do so as a celebration of our spirit as we seek to shine, love, and share our amazing self with a presence far greater than anything allowed in many of our world-focused. What I have found over the years is that in retaining that child-friendly curiosity even in my adult years I am more easily able to live in my soul-awareness.

Dreams about Hummingbirds: The Hummingbird as a Sign of Self

One of the most common thread in the stories shared by others on hummingbird encounters is that they give us a safe, welcoming space to ask that question, “Is what I have perceived real?”, or even more deeply felt, “am I real?” without crushing us with the veil of fear or envy that we sometimes get from the people in our lives.

These wonderful, interactive, and bold spirits with their amazing abilities of flight are a great gift to us in these times when our thinking-self is the most encouraged “muscle”. Thank you for sharing your dream with us as you open your mind toward seeing the subtle yet most powerful part that makes you who you are.

Thanksgiving day has arrived, and like many individuals I’ll be spending the day with those I appreciate, both human, 4-legged and winged. There is also the herd of deer living in the neighborhood with hunting season open, and this is the safest place for them to be. No lesser on the list is the hord of sparrows, jays, doves, flickers, even the starlings who will gladly take part in the celebration so long as the feeders are full.

Long before dinner reaches the table inside the house the others get their share. I brought with me a special tray of home-made suet for the occasion. Back home the hummingbirds feeders have been checked to assure that none run dry, and suet is in place for the Pileated and downy woodpeckers, titmouse, sparrows and other winged ones.

The Giving Part of Thanksgiving

There is no better time than now to bring up the topic of giving. On that day so many decades ago there is the story of the people who had reached this land and were desperate to find food. There were no laws, social programs, or charities to assist them. It was through the reaching out of indigenous people to share the little that they had that made this event memorable. Reaching out without being asked. Giving for no reason other than giving.

Ways to Give Today

I look around at the communities that are rising throughout my region, even in this downturn of the economy. They clear cut large areas and “make up” for it with a tiny park and a few young trees planted along the side of the roads. What happens to the wildlife in those areas?

I was asked about the hummingbirds when visiting one of those communities. No trees were present to provide perching and shelter. “You can put out a feeder, but you’ll have to find a shady spot so the sugar water doesn’t go rancid”. Be patient, it may take some time to encourage the hummingbirds to return to this area. Don’t forget the suet and seed.

Giving to Those We Cannot See

Just as the damage done to the wildlife habitat is rarely seen or thought of there are many in our midst who have been damaged in one way or another, and quietly endure. A friend told me about a fund created at her vet’s office to help seniors who could not afford emergency treatment for their pet. I gave thought further thought to this idea, and decided a posting on giving was in order.

Organizations exist in every state, and it’s easy enough to google for “wildlife rescue washington state” or whatever state you live in. In my area is the well-known PAW’s. My sister donates her used clothing and other items to their thrift stores. There is also the Washington Wildlife Rehabilitation Program, and other wild bird rescue groups. We can give our time, used items, and cash donations, and every gift counts. Check with these organizations if you seek a deductible receipt.

Happy Thanksgiving One and All

The rest of the homemade suet will soon appear in the feeder as the peanuts mixed in with the smaller seed will soon be gone. As I type a scrub-jay is already taking what he can within his beak, and two doves are in a winged dance to determine who gets first-feeder rights. Happy Thanksgiving to all within my circle, to those inside with the warmth from the wood stove to those who perch on the trees outside the door.

Blessings,
