Walking with Wings

The Hummingbird holds a special place in our shamanic world, serving as a link between the physical worldly plane and the higher spiritual plane.

Greatness is not based upon our size, but on our presence. Be here, in the moment, and experience the lightness of being as you walk with wings.

Today was a day of discovery. After two, maybe three cold rainy days I was happy to see blue skies and warming sunlight. By midday it was time for a walk in the park.

When we arrived at our destination I chose to park on the south lot rather than take a far spot to the north. Unfortunately this meant a long journey to visit with the most social of the hummingbirds.

We wandered down the path with a flurry of other dogs and owners, and circled around into my favorite clover patch. Almost immediately I heard a young boy tell his father, “look, there’s clover!”. Such excitement. As I walked in my own direction I glanced at the clover patches along the way, finding one, two, then a third four-leaf clover. It brought joy to my heart to replenish the supply to be sent to soldiers in combat duties. My goal this year is 100 for support distribution, with the rest to be added to medicine bags for young and old alike.

One of those three four-leaf clovers had to go to that young boy. “Do you know about four-leaf clovers”, I asked. “Yes, they are lucky”, he replied. “Well then, you must be very lucky, because when I heard you talk so happily about the clover, they sent this one to you”. He was thrilled to have such a gift. “Something so rare is special, and since it came to you then you must be special, too.”

As we wandered along we circled around the bench overlooking the valley. This was the place where I had my first hummingbird encounter, and from these interactions I dedicated my time and energy to these writing. I had not seen the handsome male there since I had pointed out the direction of a potential mate. Maybe he just traveled for better food sources. I truly miss him.

Check back tomorrow for part II of “I close my eyes so that I may see”.

I am Here for You – How can this be?

May 8, 2008: Today’s walk through the park was adventurous. The lab decided to sidetrack and found her way into the pond. My older dog was content to stay dry, but explored the area nonetheless. We walked passed all our usual hummingbird meet and greet locations. My favorite male has not been seen too often lately, but I have not lingered too long at our meeting place. The hillside “transforming wonder” took flight from a thickly leaved tree as I walked down the hill, and shot like a rocket into nowhere. We wandered back up the hill, and through the fields. Occasionally I whistle for my friends, they are responsive, coming by for a visit. I see more of my friend near the parking lot these days, and today was no exception.

hummingbird visit“Hello, my friend”, I stated outloud as I saw him light on a branch. “I told you I am here for you”, he replied, with a gentle tone and a soft vibration reaching right into my heart. I felt a wave of energy enter my heart, and run swiftly and gracefully down through my body and connecting me to the earth. My legs felt strong and vibrant. My heart was full of joy and appreciation. I knew that when my heart was open the hummingbird energy would resonate within.

Others approached with a flurry of activity. While our conversation was short, it was intensely rich.
