Readers are always welcome to share their story on Hummingbird experiences, encounters, dreams, and more on HummingbirdShaman.com – here’s a story shared by Matthew. Hummingbirds have a wonderful healing quality, and it times they appear when we are in deep reflection and in need of support. But sometimes they show up for “no good reason”, but that’s a contradiction, isn’t it? Any time hummingbirds show up is a good thing!

Matthew’s Hummingbird Story

What if I attract them? I’ve read all the posts, and there are great inspirational stories. But I’m in a good place mentally and spiritually. I’ve had rough times in life like everyone. But I have learned from them and moved on. I’m happy even though everything isn’t perfect. I love my family and savor every moment that life has to offer. I believe that we are all connected through a devine energy, light, God, or whatever anyone likes to call it. But with that being said, let me explain my circumstance. Whenever I go outside, I am visited by hummingbirds. Literally, everytime. And I don’t live in a flower garden – Phoenix, Az. I realize that hummingbirds are common here, but they come to see me – get really close – and often land and sing… that high pitch chatter. People I know have also noticed this and pointed it out. My parents live with us, and my father works out in the garden every day. He sees them as often as anyone else. But he says when I walk outside, several of them congregate. He calls it the hummingbird party. At work there is a patio area where we take our breaks. Co-workers will be sitting out there regularly. But when I come out and join them, hummingbirds show up and land in the surrounding trees and will sing. When I return inside, the birds leave. Several people have mentioned this to me on multiple occasions. Some are amazed by it – some come out on break with me just to see it. I go running on my lunch break and am usually visited by, or like today, joined by a hummingbird. He actually flew along side me at about waist level for about 200 yards. It is all the time. They are never afraid of me. They land within reach, and don’t flinch at my movements. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I just want to know why? If they have a message for me, I would love to know what it is, because they have been trying to tell me for years!

Hummingbirds Appear Every Time I’m Near

Sounds like lyrics from a Karen Carpenter song, doesn’t it? ”Hummingbirds appear every time I’m near”. All kidding aside, it is always amazing to see a situation when hummingbirds appear for what appears to be “a visit”.

I can certainly relate. In earlier years I couldn’t attract hummingbirds into my yard no matter what I did. Now I have many who live nearby, and my circle extends. They greet me when I step outside, or return from a walk. They perch in the nearby cherry tree when I am loading my car for an event, almost like a pep-rally. They sing that soft little inspirational song. I am very intuitively open to seeing the connection between my activity and the hummingbird appearances, and invite these encounters in my life.

Why does this happen, these hummingbird parties or hummingbird gatherings? There is no logical, mentally satisfying answer, but do we want one? No, I don’t think so. Hummingbirds are special little birds, so focused, so amazingly gifted in their flight patterns and behavior. Many hold hummingbirds so dearly in their hearts that they make promises to return as hummingbird messengers through the sighting of a hummingbird after that persons death.

Hummingbird Party

There is a certain way in which we communicate with others, the way we “hold our energy”, that conveys a message to the world around us. We have certain phrases that tap into describing this “spiritual ambiance”, like “magnetic personality”, or be personable. Then there is our subtle energies, and the soul-relations we have with other people, animals, even plants. It’s that subtle level that creates that likability.

As I look at likability on that energetic, soul-felt level, it delves into our openness and acceptance, our ability to communicate, and how much we bring our purpose-full self into our everyday world. There is one thing for sure, most often those ambiant moments come without thinking of it. Often included is the phrase, “why me?”, only because that part of us that is so resonant doesn’t often walk with our ego self.

Creating Our Own Hummingbird Ambiance

Is this level of “being” something that some have and some don’t? There is no denying that some people walk the walk, but we are all fully capable with a full spectrum range of relationships between ourselves and the world. We simply get talked out of our own inner-glow, or sometimes create energy walls to protect something we treasure that has not been treated so kindly.

Can we change those barriers to our own soul-ambiance? Definitely, but these shifts can be fleeting just like the hummingbird visits. Still, the more we unravel our own inner-mysteries the more comfort we feel in our own existence, and the more that inner ambiance can shine through. Private WalkWithWing sessions focus on giving your ambiant self a time to exist and be seen in a safe, accepting environment.

Thanks Matthew for inspiring this post and sharing your story!!

Can the appearance of hummingbirds be a sign of hope? Life carries such simplicity and complexity at the same time, giving us so many events, and at times complications. Yet within the circle of every situation we are also provided room for resolution and growth.

There is no explaining why thinks happen in the way that they do, yet we continue to look for answers. We turn in every direction looking for those answers, then somewhere within the back of our mind we search yet again to see those subtle signs that reassure. Those who think they know the answers know more about the walls they live inside than the life within. Those who silence their minds long enough to see, feel, and expand beyond their own abilities are able to build those bridges that give us soul-presence, connectivity, and reassurance that we are not alone.

It is said “There are signs everywhere”. Signs of spirit are subtle, and being filled with such life they need not be anything more. It’s the man-made signs and messages that are bold, blatant, and “in your face”, thrown at us so often because they must convince us to believe in their stories and illusions. It’s those who live within that narrow band of existence who cast their denial, but we need not worry. Nothing so low can diminish our soul-presence, our hope, and our ability to Walk With WIngs.

Wendy’s Hummingbird Story

Hello,
After trying to find the meaning of hummingbirds, I came across this site, read many great stories and thought I’d share my own.

More than 4 years ago, my husband and I decided to add to our family. We were lucky to get pregnant quickly, but to then only lose the baby right before the 2nd trimester. At the time, I thought there was nothing more difficult to deal with than a miscarriage. We continued to try to get pregnant, and eventually needed the help of fertility treatments. Month after month, I was on a roller coaster of emotions…two weeks of being hopeful that we were pregnant would eventually lead into two weeks of depression when we found out we weren’t.
Nothing seemed to work in our favor.

We finally decided to give up on our own hopes of a biological child, and started our adoption journey. After getting home-study approved, we were matched with a birthmother three months later. I developed what I thought was a great relationship with the birthmother, who was expecting a baby girl in May 2011. We were so excited and prepared for our adopted-daughter’s birth. We had everything we needed and were just waiting for “the call” when the birthmother was to go into labor, which was to happen any day. I called our caseworker to ask a question, and she then informed me that the birthmother had already had the baby, was home with her husband, and was keeping the baby. We found out they were just using us to help them financially with medical expenses and rent.

We were devastated. I was extremely depressed. This was worse than the miscarriage. We were just days of thinking we were welcoming a baby daughter into our family, and it ended with no answer. My depression continued. However, I started to notice the presence of the occasional hummingbird in our back yard and outside a window I face regularly. I thought it was interesting to suddenly see hummingbirds and thought there had to be some sort of meaning. I actually saw it as a good sign that we would have a baby one day.

Four months after our failed adoption, we were again matched with a birthmother. I thought that the universe would right itself and we would have an easy adoption, but it was the opposite. This birthmother was an emotional mess, manipulative, and at times very uncaring. I continued to support her emotionally through crisis after crisis. It was wearing, but I did my best to build a relationship with a woman who would give us the most precious gift of all. She ended up not being a good match for us because of her instability and
manipulation.

However, just weeks before the adoption was to take place, we found out that…through a miracle of God…we ourselves were pregnant!! I thought immediately about the hummingbirds. I even thought our baby would eventually have some sort of nickname signifying a hummingbird. We decided to walk away from the adoption. Everything has gone perfectly with the pregnancy. We are having a baby girl. The universe did right itself and God brought us what we had been wanting for so many years.

Today on my daily walk, a hummingbird flew a foot from my face, just hovered there long enough for me to see its greenish-colored belly. I couldn’t believe it. I had never had one just hover right before my very eyes. It was a beautiful
moment. I’m just weeks from my due date in May and thought it was also related to our baby.

What can all this mean? Does a hummingbird come to you in time of need to shed light where light is needed?…to offer hope?…to show promise? Thanks for reading my story.

The Hummingbird Sign of our Circle of Love

Thank you Wendy for sharing your story. I personally felt very uplifted by the shift that lead to your own pregnancy. The hummingbirds were clearly a part of your journey, simple symbols that were close enough to be seen but far enough to let you be within yourself to complete your own journey.

The energy around your pregnancy is so joyful and you are clearly committed and supportive of the baby and spirit that inhabits this tiny body. You manage the energy well. This darling spirit speaks out of being so much like you, very “in the moment”. The expression “all things in good time” comes to mind, with great enthusiasm.

Is The Hummingbird Here To Assure Us?

What does it mean to assure? It means to lift us from our doubts. Can a hummingbird do just that, lift us from our own complications so we can see things more clearly? Surely their wing power could be symbolic, their ability to hover, their strength within that small body. Are hummingbirds a sign from some greater consciousness? We can question it all we would like, with our science and our logic, but we cannot change who we are. No logic will ever diminish our soul. Thank goodness that there are simple signs like hummingbirds that allow us to rise above our circumstances and tap into our own soul essence. This gives us hope, the threads that help us through our stormy times.

Thank you again, Wendy, for sharing your story. What a wonderful, blessed ending so symbolic of our soul-nature, that an ending is anything but an ending, it is a new beginning.

Our world places so much emphasis on the measure-for-measure, trading time for a paycheck, pounds of potatoes for the dollar, and so on. Not everything in life follows that man-made rule. There are those amazing moments come so seemingly random that enrich us far beyond measure. I call those moments hummingbird moments, those times when something that comes and goes in a flash causes us to refocus and reflect. In those times a little goes a long way, until we try to weigh and measure, and force that spark of life into the segmented storage of the mind.

A Little Bit Goes A Long Way

We have this concept of tithing, giving a small portion of what we produce to sustain the spiritual community that is like a haven for the soul. When I think of tithing and spiritual community the images that come to my mind are far removed from the world we live in today. So many are spreading their wings outside the traditional, but still seek community and connectivity in some form.

Still, when I look around at the spiritual-enhancing oasis’ we have available to us today I see we have many ways to create and nurture those communities, ways that stretch beyond our physical community. One direction we have turned to is websites, bridging us instantly around the world.

HummingbirdShaman is a portal to recognition of our own soul presence. We take that step by seeking out or seeing some sign that sparks something that cannot always be expressed in words. Though we may see those signs as something outside ourselves the impression that they make is felt deep within our soul.

Today, here at HummingbirdShaman, I share my thoughts and words in support of recognizing our subtle presence, offering this oasis of the soul through this website. There is little different between what I share today through HummingbirdShaman and what I shared when I stood behind the pulpit thirty years ago in front of a room of people as their minister on a Sunday morning. The only difference is time and space. The voice of spirit rises from what is written instead of what is said.

Inner Tithing

Tithing is not necessarily something that is restricted by what we give and who we give it to. It can be a slice of time that we give to ourselves to experience our own purposeful self, a time when we allow an open connection with the soul-self. One of my most treasured times is that moment when I hear the greeting of the hummingbird outside my door. Simple, yes, and our breath / spirit will always be just that, but that simple breath is life, that simple breath is what sustains us.

Acknowledging Our Communities

I encourage those who have found value in this spiritual community to support this portal to our soul-felt expression by giving. That giving can be a monetary donation offered via the website. It can be sharing a story, or commenting on posts. You can also support the community by scheduling a session for yourself or for your business venture or projects.

Making An Investment In Life

Our time is spent, as is our attention and energy. It is our choice how we view those investments, and recognize just how much our own thoughts influence the return from those investments.

Last week I shared a quote from Henry vanDyke, and I’d like to close with one more from this poet:

“Time is too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love – time is eternity.”

This morning’s activity began long before the sun rose in so many ways. I was awake in the early hours, and nestled within my electronic world of emails and websites. Many tasks were in the queue for the day, and I left home while it was still dark. Within a block of my home my drive was already interrupted by a young raccoon crossing the road. I yield to raccoons, choosing to allow my nurturing nature to live more dominantly, at least in the moment, than that part of me that in such a big hurry.

What’s the Hurry?

It’s easy for us to get wrapped up in what we “have to do”, as though anything could be more important than our awareness, our breath, and our experience in life. Yet we do just that, finding discontentment in the traffic that takes our time away from more important things.

The appearance of that raccoon give me cause to remember an earlier thought, long before my trek out into the “river that doesn’t flow”, aka traffic. One thought leads to another, and before my first stop sign of the journey I gave thought to the two ways of business.

There’s the strip-mine style, where anything that creates a smile or brings a breath of relief is discouraged because it may interfere with productivity. Then there is the style of nature, to build and replenish. It’s easy to get lost in what we “do”, but what we do is the place where we bring our soul into the world. Our acts are the canvas and our creative nature is the palette full of the colors of life.

I yield to raccoons, those simple reminders to slow down and remember that life is far too precious to hurry on by.

Crows are abundant in my area, but even as common as they are they still are commanding in their presence. The examples are many, such as the many crows flying quite intently over the treetops in a northern direction, clearly with purpose. Their direction took them nearly over my head, and I could not help but watch to see if their destination was close by.

Nothing to Crow About

The expression “nothing to crow about” is associated with boasting, making something a big deal. We might look at it as egotistical, self acknowledgement and gratification, or worse, waggling our accomplishments in the faces of others. Let’s step out of that perspective for a moment, and talk about crowing from a different angle.

Crowing – A Sign of Strength and Intelligence

Crows are amazing communicators. Just a few days ago I took a walking food break, and as I crossed through a parking lot toward my pathway I saw a crow hopping across the lot in search of food. I could not resist tossing him a piece of my own food, which he glanced at and soon carried away. At the other end of the lot another couple of crows perched on a light, apparently watching the exchange. I tossed out a couple more pieces, thinking they would not touch them till I passed, but these crows made it clear that time should not be wasted. One of the crows called out, then flew down to take what was offered. Soon there were 10 crows, all happy to take part in the offering. One made me smile as he grabbed not one but many pieces within his beak, displaying his skill and intelligence.

Nothing to Crow About?

When the crows talk they talk about things of value, something worth noting. Isn’t it amazing how humans can be, with our abilities and extensive means of communicating? We can express great brilliance, or just as easily be taken for a fool, with the dividing line being found somewhere in-between our clarity and the perception of others.

The expression “nothing to crow about” speaks of boasting, making something out of nothing. Every time I think of that expression I picture children and their cutting-edge ability to tell it like it is. Then I look around at the “real” world around me, and I see so many examples in advertising, media, and politics where the hocus-pocus stories are told to make whatever is being sold to us appear to be “the right thing” or “for our good”. It’s no wonder we’re confused and turn in so many directions to find our answers.

Crow Way or “Show” Way?

Which side do we take when it comes to having “something to crow about”? Do we take the crow’s perspective of sharing what is valuable and worthy of attention, or the smoke-screen, stage-show attitude that manipulates our thoughts and re-directs our attention? Perhaps it is time for us to ask a few solid questions and find our own answers, and demand facts instead of just a pile of “shiny objects”.

It’s funny how my thoughts have turned to the tales told about crows being attracted to “shiny objects”. This may be true for crows, and it is also true for people. But those who speak of the crows from such a superficial perspective only show their own limits, offering nothing of value about their topic and backward messages hidden within their words.

There is intelligence that goes far deeper than what we are shown on the outside, and that statement applies both to crows and to people. We all have the choice to crow about nothing, or having something of value to crow about.

There are those times when we can say “the week has been a long one”, those times when our energy goes 100% into just keeping our nerves from unraveling. I asked for a gentle, swift ride home, not a parking lot on the freeway. Ask and it shall be given, and I arrive to the minute within the timeframe I asked.

As I arrived home I see one of the many hummingbirds lingering at the lilacs. The two tubes of sugar water are empty, but the bigger bottle was not. As I glance back I see another form fluttering over the lilacs, maybe the same one, but that is difficult to determine.

Shifting from One Busy to Another

This weekend will be clean up time for the garden, and to kick-off the process I proceeded out the back door to fetch the large recycling cans I keep for such an occasion. This isn’t work, not like the week has been, but a simple task that celebrates the time I’ll have with nature.

I spotted 1/2 ripe tomatoes as I set the cans in place for filling, and rounded the post to gather my harvest. It’s already mid october and too few tomatoes have ripened. As I contemplate the state of tomato-affairs I see another figure in the nearby trees. Another hummingbird shows himself by rising above the branches, then eases himself down on a high branch. I call out to him with my limited range of hummingbird type sounds, and he responds in his sing-song voice very enthusiastically. I try to mimic the joyful voice, but only sound like a confused chatter, to which he replies, this time more in a choppy sequence that sounds like morse code.

Aren’t all the sounds we make “intended”?

It sounds strange to some, and refreshingly similar to others, but it’s real: we do communicate within our own species, and with other species we can create a level of comfort with. For some it is the pet rodent that nestles in your pocket and warmly accepts a sunflower seed or some other treat. We connect with our dogs, cats, horses, pot-belly pigs, and the many other animals in our lives. Our parrots and other domesticated birds speak to us as best they can, and listen to our words. So how is it strange to connect to a hummingbird?

Hummingbird Chatter – Morse Code Messages?

These moments of greetings may not be morse code messages, and we may write-off the sounds of a hummingbird as some primitive bird-talk. Maybe yes, maybe no. It could be that we’re the ones unable to make the connection and interpret the message, being far too busy with our noise and our electronic world to connect to something living. God bless those little creatures for giving us a chance to smile.

As for me, I’m still completely exhausted but yet rejuvenated. Leave it to a little winged wonder to guide me to a place where I can Walk With Wings.

Many people see hummingbirds as symbols of the soul. This is nothing new, for in ancient times the hummingbird was thought to mean the presence of God, how God would appear to us. Nowadays we are so educated, both in what we know but also molded in what we believe, and many of the subtle symbols of spirit are quickly extinguished by our logical minds.

Amazingly enough we still have moments when everything adds up and the pieces fall together. It takes a big step out of the logic-mind to see something that we might just have to call a miracle, and it takes a long-deep breath within our soul to hold faith in something that cannot be explained. God bless us all for stepping out of our manufactured-lives and into the breath that is spirit, the true-life essence that gives purpose to everything else.

Susan’s Hummingbird Story

I’ve been coming to Walk with Wings since losing my mother to lung cancer in February.. I don’t remember now exactly how I found you, but I’m glad I did!

My story about hummingbirds is a long one, so I hope it’s ok to write it all to you.

When it came to the time that I knew my mother was not going to be with us much longer, I felt the need to have a heart to heart last talk with her. I told her how much I loved her and how much I was going to miss her, and I told her that I don’t know or understand how it all works, but if it was possible when she gets to heaven, would she send me a hummingbird so that I would know that she is there and that she is ok.

By this time it was hard for her to even speak, but she got these words out clearly to me..”Susan, if that is possible, I will do it.” This was February 5th, late in the evening. She passed away 16 days later.

After she passed, I kept thinking, “WHY did you ask for a hummingbird, there has always been lots of them around, I should have asked for something really out of the ordinary!”

When it was time to make the funeral arrangements, my sisters and I were looking at the things that we had to buy..my sister spotted a book up on a shelf, she called to me with tears in her eyes. She said, “Susan, here is your hummingbird.” It was a condolence book with hummingbirds on the front of it. Of course, that is the book that we have to get! This was the first “sign” for me.

About 3 weeks later, my husband went out our back door. He called to me in an excited voice. There laying on my porch was a little hummingbird! The tears were pouring by now..I picked it up, put it in a shoebox because it was hurt and could’nt fly. I kept it there for a little while til it finally got enough strength to fly away.
Even that very act of me trying to keep it and take care of it makes perfect sense now. That was exactly what I had been doing for her for months! But I finally had to let her go..

I felt such a connection to it all..(I connected all the dots!”).. This was what I WAS supposed to ask her to send to me! And now I know that the talk my Mother and I shared that night was not just a heart to heart, but spirit to spirit!

Heart to Heart, Spirit to Spirit

Thank you for sharing your beautiful story. Too long? Not at all. We all need those long deep breaths sometimes when we get to linger within the magic of spirit. Many of those special times come and go so quickly like the hummingbird encounters, but they are so full of life that they linger within and energize a part of us that is so often overshadowed by our hectic world.

Out of the ordinary: what a great comment, and you did get what you asked for, something out of the ordinary. How wonderful that you guarded that hummingbird till it could take flight again.

God Bless,
